Benefits of the Honda Drive Assistance Sensing Features
There can be no doubt we live in a time when technology helps enhance virtually every part of our lives. Some of us may still look at the thermometer outside to decide what to wear for the day, but many times we just check our smartphone apps to determine the weather. If we depend on technology for our entertainment, it only makes sense for us to use it where it matters most. Honda Sensing features, which are optional in many models, provide peace of mind when rowdy kids provide distractions in the backseat. So what are Honda Sensing features?
What’s Included as Honda Sensing Technology?
The name Honda Sensing is what is given to the variety of driver assistance features provided by the reliable automaker. As we’ve said, they are available in most models, including the 2016 Honda Accord. Typically they are available for an additional cost, though in the Accord you’ll also find them standard in the Touring trim. So what exactly is available?
Forward collision warning and lane departure warning systems help prevent accidents as they provide audible alerts and flashing when either drifting over the center line without the use of a signal or when you are approaching an object too quickly. The former also serves as a reminder to use your turn signal, which is helpful to other drivers. Forward collision warning also works in conjunction with a collision mitigation braking system to help you stop before it is too late to prevent a collision.
We’re always saying it’s the year of the Honda, because at some point we have to recognize it’s true. The automaker has something new up its sleeve every year, and things seem to only be getting better. It’s be far too long since Honda has offered a truck in the U.S., and it’s finally coming this spring as a 2017 model year. It may be cheesy, but it seems we’ve found something to love in the 2017 Honda Ridgeline singing sheep Superbowl commercial, which features talking and singing animals to amuse drivers and future drivers of all ages.
Road departure mitigation is a bit like lane departure warning, but works when you appear to be drifting off the side of the road. It also uses a radar system to detect the lines in the road and will help to keep you from driving into the gravel.

2017 Honda Ridgeline Sheep Superbowl Commercial
Lane keeping assist may sound similar to departure, but it’s actually different, as it detects whether you are drifting from the center of the lane and adjusts steering for you.
Adapative cruise control is likely one of the most convenient features, as it manually changes your speed to a set following distance. Many times long drives lead us to lose focus, and it can be difficult to tell how fast we are approaching a slower vehicle. This feature doesn’t force you to take control of the wheel, but slows your Honda down for you.
Though the commercial itself may be a tad silly, it does highlight some of the features you can expect once the model comes out. The main thing being advertised is available truck-bed audio, which has six exciters built in and connected to the audio system. On the infotainment system is the option to switch the audio to play through these speakers, so when you’re working out in the field or on a job, you can listen to some music, or perhaps listen to the game when football season comes around again next year.
As you can see, each feature takes into account various common events that happen during long drives when you may lose focus due to fatigue. We hope this clears up some of these convenient features. Remember to check back here at Rairdon’s Honda of Burien for more information on popular Honda features and models.
Though not necessarily highlighted in the commercial, you can also see the built-in bed trunk, which is another nice feature that will lock and provide a secure location for tools and valuables you don’t want loose in the bed.
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is not available yet, but we expect to see it come to Rairdon’s Honda of Burien in a few short months. Stay tuned here or contact our team to get the latest updates on availability.
